"Nohemi: The Chosen One" Book Review

BOOK REVIEWED BY AKHILA SAROHA (INDIA'S TOP 10)

A literary writing that is a combination of more elements beyond the ordinary becomes unique not only due to its features but also because of the manner in which it can captivate the readers. “Nohemi: The Chosen One” strikes as a creation that is a combination of the unique thought and artistic capabilities of the author Ivana Pranjic. Through her book, the author explores the life of the title character, who is chosen by destiny to achieve a target beyond the ordinary as it has already been decided. In the midst of this, the author explores the first installment in the early stages of the life of Nohemi. Her exceptional nature and temperament are distinguishing features of her personality that not only bring her the attention of the readers but ensure they remain with her in her journey to find the true purpose of her life.

While exploring Nohemi’s life, Pranjic also explores other characters in the medieval land of Mandalkos and unfolds the story through their targets and actions. Nohemi, as an individual, possesses qualities that make her exceptional and distinguished from the others right from her birth. This also makes her exceptional in her manner of thinking and decision-making. The readers are put in the position of being spectators by hearing the story through an unnamed narrator who sometimes gives control to the characters to express themselves and otherwise tells a major part of the story on his own. Through this technique, the readers are able to observe the growth and development of all characters and connect the consequences of their actions on themselves as well as the people around them.

Among the characters that contribute to the development of “Nohemi: The Chosen One,” Dagfin and Macarius stand out for their opposite temperaments, ways of thinking and approaches towards the people in their lives. Despite their being friends for their whole life, the author highlights the fact that people can remain unknown to each other’s personalities even after being together in thick and thin. At the same time, women like Tethys and Conleth come across as strong characters who pass on their boldness to Nohemi, who eventually sets out on a journey of her own at a young age. The traits of these characters make them real, close to life and relatable for the readers. Their actions also demonstrate how every decision can pull different strings of destiny and hence, shape life on the whole.

The plot development is also one of the defining features of “Nohemi: The Chosen One.” What begins as an interesting and swift development of events culminates in an end where Nohemi grows up to decide her path despite the troubles life throws at her. The author shows how the losses of her life make her a strong personality and bold enough to accept life’s challenges. Altogether, the readers would find themselves engrossed in the book for its speed of development of the plot and characters, which is more or less parallel.

Pranjic packs the book with other interesting details through her imagination, which features witches, powerful wolves, animals who can communicate with human beings and other such fantasy features that make “Nohemi: The Chosen One” a mixture of myth, fantasy and reality which is set in the medieval times. The fact that Nohemi is the chosen one for some reason is a mystery that is left for the readers to decode and understand. However, throughout the book, the author gives hints and reasons here and there to explain the reasons why Nohemi became the chosen one and what makes her ideal for this choice. In light of this, “Nohemi: The Chosen One” is recommended to all readers who have an interest in reading fiction works packed with elements of fantasy and people who have exceptional lives.
