BOOK REVIEWED BY AKHILA SAROHA (India's Top 10  Book Reviewer)

In a world where everything is perceived close to ideal, a text that strikes readers in a unique and unexpected way is bound to have an impact that is likely to leave them awestruck and in wonder about how far is the world close to the ideals. In her second novel titled “Kingdom of Rascals” after “The White Maze,” Arunima G makes a mark into the world that is deeply rooted in the real and far more closer to how life actually occurs. While the “Kingdom of Rascals” features a plethora of characters who are stuck at the crossroads of life and driven to often make difficult choices, their circumstances and situations not only justify their actions but assure the readers that what had to be done was done. The overall beauty of Arunima G’s second book lies in its being not only distinct but weaving in a string of stories that are born in this world and would find place in the same world.

“Kingdom of Rascals” begins in a style that is unique, striking and grabs the attention of the readers right at the moment. The starkness of presentation of characters and their actions through the author’s pen depict the kingdom in which her characters live and how they suffer. Since suffering forms a major part of their life, the book becomes closer to the real and makes more sense since the readers agree at practically every juncture that this was to happen. In her kingdom, Arunima G shows characters that are corrupt at different levels which is further highlighted by their actions, abuses and sufferings. In the midst of this, the author raises serious issues which revolve around women and children.

Even though the author shows her women to be successful and empowered, the other side of life is shown as dark, suffering which is in absolute silence. It is only through the author’s words that the readers get to know about the sufferings and internal thought processes of the women. At the same time, children are also victims at the hands of both men and women and suffer unspoken abuses. Although “Kingdom of Rascals” breaks ground in speaking of the misery of all these people, the readers subconsciously agree as they are equally aware of the reality that embodies these stories. The fact that there is an intermingling of more than one story and characters do come across each other also shows the world is a circle and people living in the kingdom of rascals are bound to meet under different circumstances.

In "Kingdom of Rascals," Arunima G delves into a world that is intricately crafted to mirror the complexities and realities of life itself. Through a diverse array of characters, each navigating their own crossroads and faced with challenging decisions, the novel explores the depths of human nature and the justifications behind their actions. The remarkable aspect of Arunima G's second book is its ability to seamlessly intertwine a multitude of stories that are not only unique and captivating but also deeply rooted in the world we live in.
