“In the Name of the Father and the Sons” weaving stories together

Arunima G has the craft of weaving stories from threads and creating one whole fabric on the canvas of a book through her writing.  Whether it is “The White Maze,” “Kingdom of Rascals,” or her latest, “In the Name of the Father and the Sons,” she has the capability of creating a universe that is close to ours and yet distant from it due to the lifestyle and habits shown. She achieved the same feat when writing her latest book, “In the Name of the Father and the Sons.” While the book features multiple characters that seem to function in different universes, it is the author’s skill and ability that brings them together.

The book is an interesting account of stories coming from different minds and yet running together as they would be in a parallel universe. It keeps the readers glued to it due to the speed of developments, placement of events and characters that resemble an everyday person and yet are distinct from them. The author presents the gruesome side of the world in its primal form and gives it the touches of reality to make “In the Name of the Father and the Sons” more a product of real events. At the same time, her honesty in depicting human relationships, base desires and reactions gives a thorough impression of reality.

At the beginning of “In the Name of the Father and the Sons,” the readers find themselves in between different streams of characters that are set to tell their stories and share their experiences. While it may not initially link up, the author accurately speeds up the narrative, and the frequent switches of situations from one place to another help the readers get a grip on the main plot. Simultaneously, she also challenges the imagination of the readers and their capabilities to recollect the earlier developments. This also ensures that the readers are unable to keep the book away untill they have read and finished it. The connections between the characters are also another feature that keeps the readers guessing to understand how one may be related to another, keeping their curiosity alive throughout the book.

As the stories develop through the minds of different people, the readers also find themselves caught up with many questions and wondering the answers for them. As they read through, the questions continue to resonate in their mind. It is only till the last page of the book that the author manages to answer all of them smoothly and explains all the sides with justice. Her usage of techniques like swinging the narrative between different characters, sometimes oscillating in different timelines, flashback techniques, and representation of one character through the eyes of another are significant features that distinguish “In the Name of the Father and the Sons” from the author’s earlier books, too. In that sense, the book is a package of thought, imagination, remembrance of facts and joining the dots as one goes along to read a plot that swiftly develops.
