BOOK REVIEWED BY AKHILA SAROHA (INDIA'S TOP 10)

“1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened” is set to define its own legacy in history and research. We discussed the makings of the book with the author Krishna Kumar. Here is some part of the conversation:

1. Akhila Saroha: If you were to describe your book “1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened” in a few words without giving any spoilers, what would those words be?

Krishna Kumar: An analysis of how and why the seeds of destruction of the British Rule were put.

2. Akhila Saroha: What advice would you give to budding writers who may be planning to write in the same genre as “1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened”?

Krishna Kumar: Research and cross check.

3. Akhila Saroha: Do you think you have conveyed all you had in mind through “1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened,” or do you feel that there is more to come from your pen on the same subject that the book explores? How much research/revisions it took to write the book before you approved the final draft?

Krishna Kumar: Yes I will be covering Indian Freedom Struggle in a separate book soon. It took innumerable revisions to keep the book compact.

4. Akhila Saroha: The book may become a sensation in the long run. How is the audience responding to the book? Is it close to the expected response?

Krishna Kumar:

It needs to reach the audience. Some of the comments received on the book are highly encouraging.

5. Akhila Saroha: The book contains scenes that would make the readers emotional too. How did you manage to infuse them with emotions that still keep the text in the natural mode?

Krishna Kumar: The lifelong study of Indian history, crying while visiting Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum in London.

7. Akhila Saroha: There are so many unique perspectives in “1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened.” What was the most challenging thing about writing such complexity in a simpler version?

Krishna Kumar: Discovering the reality of the Quit India movement.

8. Akhila Saroha: Even though “1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened” comes from a personal experience with a personal touch, it still keeps you as the narrator uninvolved with the text. How as a writer did you keep that detachment?

Krishna Kumar: I have to be fair to the facts. As I said earlier I have kept my conclusions to a bare minimum and then also have provided citations for these statements.

9. Akhila Saroha: “1942: When British Rule in India was Threatened” is an attractive, easy-to-remember, and catchy title. How did you come up with it?

Krishna Kumar: I had come up with 7 or 8 titles and then this was chosen.
